    Lichens from the Zemplínske vrchy Mts and Physcia leptalea new to Slovakia

    We present the results of lichenological survey in the area of Zemplínske vrchy Mts in this paper. The study area is underexplored regarding lichens and there are not many published resources on lichens. In total thirty-five localities were investigated and 68 lichen species were identified. Fifteen species of them are evaluated in the Red list of lichens of Slovakia. From interesting findings, Cladonia crispata, Graphis scripta, Lecanora conizaeoides and Flavoparmelia caperata are discussed here. Physcia leptalea is reported for the first time for the area of Slovakia

    Removal of Alkylphenols from Industrial and Municipal Wastewater

    The results of the study of removal of nonylphenol, octylphenol and their ethoxylates from real industrial and municipal wastewater are presented. Industrial wastewater was pre-treated by coagulation with FeCl3 and adsorption on zeolite, before discharging into municipal sewer system. Their removal efficiencies in primary sedimentation tank of municipal WWTP were very low. From the practical point of view, the highest and the most significant removal efficiencies within the whole WWTP were observed for nonylphenol and nonylphenol ethoxylates. Dominancy of abiotic mechanisms of alkylphenols removal follows from adsorption measurements. Activated sludge cultivated in lab-scale extended aeration tank accounted for relatively high adsorption affinity to these substances. Activated sludge sampled from municipal wastewater treatment plant (MWWTP) receiving industrial wastewater containing alkylphenols accounted for very low adsorption affinity to these pollutants. Significantly higher removal efficiency of octylphenol ethoxylates was observed with the O3/granular active carbon (GAC) process compared to the ozonation process alone. Lower toxicity impact of intermediates and products of ozonation treatment on Vibrio fischeri was measured in comparison to the O3/GAC process. Actually, the municipal WWTP effluent discharge concentration values complies with EQS values, including nonylphenols.     Towards Scalable Visual Exploration of Very Large RDF Graphs

    In this paper, we outline our work on developing a disk-based infrastructure for efficient visualization and graph exploration operations over very large graphs. The proposed platform, called graphVizdb, is based on a novel technique for indexing and storing the graph. Particularly, the graph layout is indexed with a spatial data structure, i.e., an R-tree, and stored in a database.     Interactive visualization of spatio-temporal data is a very active area that has experienced remarkable advances in the last decade. This is due to the emergence of fields of research such as big data and advances in hardware that allow better analysis of information. This article describes the methodology followed and the design of an open source tool, which in addition to interactively visualizing spatio-temporal data that are represented in an ontology, allows the definition of what to visualize and how to do it. The tool allows selecting, filtering and visualizing in a graphical way the entities of the ontology with spatiotemporal data, as well as the instances related to them. The graphical elements used to display the information are specified on the same ontology, extending the VISO graphic ontology, used for mapping concepts to graphic objects with RDFS/OWL Visualization Language (RVL). This extension contemplates the data visualization on rich real-time 3D environments, allowing different modes of visualization according to the level of detail of the scene, while also emphasizing the treatment of spatio-temporal data, very often used in cultural heritage models. This visualization tool involves simple visualization scenarios and high interaction environments that allow complex comparative analysis.     Influence of Thickness and Magnetic Field on Magnetic Ordering Temperatures in Holmium Thin Films

    Influence of thickness and magnetic field on magnetic ordering temperatures is reported. The X-ray diffraction of Ho films confirmed their preferential crystal orientation and revealed diffraction peaks originating from the hcp structure of Ho and those from inessential holmium dihydride content. Secondary ion mass spectroscopy showed a very homogeneous distribution of holmium in thin films. Electrical resistance measurements on Ho films in the thickness range from 98 nm to 215 nm showed a "knee-like" resistance anomaly near the T N . The T N value of these films decreased with decreasing film thickness. Magnetic field applied parallel to the thin film plane caused an increasing suppression of the T N value up to 5 K with increasing flux density value up to 5 T

    The presented 11th part of the series includes 15 new records of vascular plants from Hungary, Slovakia and Ukrainian Carpathians. In Hungary, second country record of Rapistrum rugosum, Amaranthus emarginatus subsp. emarginatus and Pyrus betulifolia were reported. In Slovakia, new localities of Lathyrus hirsutus and seven alien Euphorbia maculata, Nigella damascena, Geranium macrorrhizum, G. purpureum, Pseudofumaria lutea, Ruta graveolens and Salvia sclarea were recorded. Guizotia abyssinica and Lupinus angustifolius are new aliens for the flora of Slovakia. From the Ukrainian Carpathians new findings of Arabidopsis neglecta and Scorzoneroides pseudotaraxaci were recorded. © 2023, Pavol Jozef Safarik University in Kosice. All rights reserved
